This three-hour workshop will provide an overview of the DSM-5 revisions, including its development process, changes to the organizational structure, and major revisions to existing diagnoses, as well as the introduction of new disorders from the previous DSM IV-TR This workshop will also inform participants about the elimination of Axis and the new utilization of level of acuity. Each different categories of Mental Health and Substance Use Related Disorders will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify at least three changes in classifications from DSM-4 to DSM-5.
  2. Participants will identify and describe at least two mental disorders and how clinicians and psychiatrists give appropriate treatments (counseling and medication).
  3. Participants will be able to identify common ASL signs that are used for terminology for numerous disorders.
