Sensemaking is the process by which people give meaning to experience. While this process has been studied by other disciplines under other names for centuries, the term 'sensemaking' has primarily marked three distinct but related research areas since the 1970s. The interrogation of experience has a long tradition in continental philosophy. Sensemaking has a very practical application to the process of sign language interpreting. Experience plays an important role in the act of interpreting. This webcast will focus on the sensemaking process and the function it plays in making sure the message is the same from the source to the Deaf consumer.
