This webcast discusses important tools and tips for interpreters who work or desire work in the mental health setting. The presentation includes videos where you will learn about the role of an interpreter within several counseling session scenarios.

Finally, two personal accounts from Deaf individuals who shared their insights and experience with having an interpreter for their mental health needs. Please join us for this invaluable session!

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to compare and contrast the differences in the mental health of deaf and hard of hearing people and the mental health of hearing individuals.
  • Participants will be able to identify at least three communication barriers experienced by deaf and hard of hearing individuals as well as deaf and blind individuals and why this presents a challenge for Mental Health Interpreting.
  • Participants will be able to list the factors involved in Intrapersonal Awareness for the interpreter and the deaf client.
