This webcast is geared to raise awareness of Vicarious Trauma (VT) to professionals including interpreters who are working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing population. Vicarious Trauma can be symptomatic in professionals who have experienced trauma in their life. This is a result that develops through time from empathic engagement in working with traumatized clients. It can lead to serious mental, physical and emotional states in professionals. The workshop will include professionals’ abilities in identifying triggers of VT, and how to implement personal VT prevention and crisis plans.

Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to accurately describe the meaning of vicarious trauma.
  • Participants will be able to list at least three signs of vicarious trauma.
  • Participants will be able to list at least three strategies to help address vicarious trauma.
