Certified interpreter, David Hylan, hosts this second installment in this series. In the series, scenes of conflict, moral dilemma, or illegal activity involving sign language interpreters are presented through text or acted out by actors. Variations are also usually included, such as changing the situations, genders, the races or the clothing of those involved in the scene, to see if participants will react differently. Hylan leads discussions with participants about their reactions. As the discussion takes place, ethical and moral implications are included, while participants explain and discuss their reactions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to list the Six Guiding Principles of Success.
  • Participants will be able to identify at least five tenets of the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Participants will be able to identify the appropriate tenet of the RID Code of Professional Conduct that applies to at least two sample ethical dilemmas.
